<aside> 👉🏼 My app idea that I am sticking with is a social media that is inspired by cooking cards and cookbooks, the whole recipe book idea stems from the fact my mom has a cookbook that was passed down by my grandma! It’s all in Tagalog so I can’t read it though.

What is User Experience Design?

UX design is the process of creating products or services that provide meaningful experiences for users, involving many different areas of product development including branding, usability, function, and design.

User Accessibility

For users, accessibility in UX design means they can use the product or service without having to worry about whether it will work for them. It means that those who have low visibility or colour blindness, require screen readers, etc., can still access the information and overall experience of your product.

User-Friendly Design

A user-friendly design enhances user experience by making it easy for users to achieve their goals and perform tasks with ease. It involves simplifying the design, providing clear and concise instructions, and reducing the learning curve.

User Adaptability

Adaptive design is a design model that creates several versions of a website to fit different devices and screen sizes but also considers the context and usability. These multiple layouts help adjust the website's user interface (UI) for different devices, making it easier for users to navigate a site.

Dark UX

Dark UX is when designers create an experience that pushes users in a direction that benefits the interests of the company rather than the user.

Eg. Bait and Switch, Disguised Ads, etc.

Light UX

Light UX is more than just the opposite of dark. Light UX keeps the best intentions in mind when moving users through the website.

Eg. Accessibility to all, Ease to use, etc.

<aside> 👉🏼 Keep in mind that user accessibility is important as the app needs to pass the AODA standard for web-based design. To push towards light UX, my app needs to focus more on the user’s needs such as user-friendly design to further benefit the user.

Cognitive Psychology

Cognitive psychology is a branch of science that investigates how people learn, think, and remember. In UX design, cognitive psychology is used to understand the mental processes behind a user’s behaviours, actions, and decisions while they interact with a product or service.

Eg. attention, memory, and perception

Behavioural Psychology

By understanding how people think, feel, and act, designers can create interfaces that work with users’ natural tendencies and promote engagement. Users can be positively influenced by rewards, incentives, and feedback. It helps in designing user interfaces that encourage desired behaviours, such as signing up for a newsletter or making a purchase.

Emotional Psychology

Emotional design refers to the intentional use of design elements to activate specific emotional responses in users. By understanding the psychology behind human emotions and incorporating design techniques, UI/UX designers can create interfaces that engage users on a deeper level. This can help them have a pleasant experience while converting them into returning clients and loyal community members.

Eg. Colour Psychology, micro-interactions, Storytelling, Visual Hierarchy

Brown does a fantastic job of conveying emotions related to the natural world, as well as connoting organic, wholesome feelings in general.

Social Psychology

Social psychology is the scientific study of how we feel about, think about, and behave toward the people around us and how those people influence our feelings, thoughts, and behaviours.

How people feel, think and interact with your product requires designers to understand schemas, attitudes, emotions, moods, social costs, social rewards and reciprocity.

<aside> 👉🏼 Takeaway: Emotional and behavioural psychology would help most with app design as it can help me understand how my target audience views certain features, such as encouraging behaviours like signing up for the app with words, colours, and other elements that make the user feel excited or welcomed.
